Standing at what felt like the edge of the world, I had travelled as far North as you can go in North America to find their nesting grounds, and of the 5 days I spent in the remote arctic village of Barrow, Alaska, I managed to spot 5 owls. Of these 5, 2 allowed me to approach close enough for a photograph. Of these 2 encounters - only this moment had good light, which lasted for 2 minutes. The sun, low in the sky, broke through some clouds, and the Arctic tundra was lit up in Autumn tones. The resulting contrast against the sheer white of the Owl was more than I could have hoped for in my search for a decent image.
