Just after sunset, if the conditions are perfect, you might spot the Belt of Venus. This is a marvellous gradation of colour that can take over the eastern sky. This visual phenomenon is made up of a prominent blue strip along the horizon, which is actually the Earth's shadow on the atmosphere.
This dark strip is crowned with a rosy pink band, which is the upper portion of Earth's atmosphere being lit up by the scattered red light of sunset.
